The Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech is recruiting engineering undergraduate students in the assistant coordinator role for its summer engineering outreach and mentoring program entitled GT PRIME.

Georgia Tech Promoting Relationships, Identity, and Mentoring through Engineering (GT PRIME) is a summer STEM outreach program that uses engineering problem solving within a family environment to strengthen the relevance and value of pathways to engineering. The program targets two populations concurrently: 1. Rising 7th and 8th graders, 2. K-12 school counselors, using a four-week curriculum for robotics and engineering design to illuminate the “human value” inherent within engineering. In this context, engineering will be defined as “the art of problem solving to help other people”.

A team of up to three middle school kids will be led by each school counselor to solve engineering design problems through a social or environmental justice lens. Analogy will be developed between the engineering design process and key personal and professional development goals, providing additional significance.

The program will be from June 3rd – July 2nd from 9:00am – 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. Assistant coordinators will be paid $2,200 for their participation in the program. Assistant coordinators are also required to attend one Saturday induction ceremony on June 8th.

Role responsibilities include assisting with troubleshooting related to the robotics platform, coordination of activities and lab tours, leading of planning and debriefing sessions, and guidance of school counselors and middle school youth on engineering. All activities will be in collaboration with the lead coordinator for the program.

No prior experience with robotics is required. We are looking for individuals that are committed to strengthening pathways to engineering by building strong relationships and engaging in design activities.
