August is one of the busiest months for Housing and Residence Life (HRL), one of the largest departments in Student Engagement and Well-Being. As nearly 8,000 Yellow Jackets prepare to move back to campus, the campus community should be mindful of potential traffic impacts and congestion. HRL will welcome nearly 4,000 new first-year, transfer, and graduate students into its residence halls on Saturday and Sunday, August 10-11. Traffic congestion will continue August 12-18, as another 4,000 upper-class and graduate residents move in.

Traffic congestion will continue August 12-18, as another 4,000 upper-class and graduate residents move-in.
Starting August 10th, here's what those coming to campus need to know:
- Residents moving in will enter campus heading westbound on North Avenue and turn right on Tech Parkway to get to the back entrance of the CRC Parking Deck for check-in. There will be additional congestion on these routes; expect delays.
- After check-in, residents will turn left onto Ferst Drive from the CRC Parking Deck and onto Techwood Drive for East Campus. Ferst Drive will remain open to traffic. Please use caution, as traffic lanes will shift. GTPD officers and volunteers will direct traffic on-site.
- Expect additional delays and congestion throughout West Campus, on Techwood Drive, and Centennial Olympic Park Drive for East Campus and North Avenue move-in, and along Tenth Street for Graduate housing.
"We appreciate the community's patience and cooperation as we adjust traffic patterns around campus. Your understanding and support enable us to provide a warm and memorable welcome for our incoming and returning residents. Thank you for embracing this temporary inconvenience to help us make their arrival truly special," said Dr. Jenny Cotton, Executive Director of Housing and Residence Life.
Additionally, drivers should abide by all parking notices and posted No Parking signage, as these areas are necessary for resident check-in, unloading, and short-term parking. These includes:
- W10-CRC Deck
- Alternative Parking: W02- Student Center Deck
- ER54-North Ave. South Deck
- Please park on Levels 2 and 3 only.
- WR29 on-street parking
- Alternative Parking: W31-IPST Lot
- ER51 on-street parking
- Alternative Parking: E52-Peters Deck
